Welcome to
Term 3, Week 8
Kia ora!
This week will be busy as
the children get through lots of work! There are only three weeks left of the
term and Miss Lee and I have a lot planned. We will continue to find out more
about Korea and for Writing at the moment we are moving on from Character
Descriptions to Character Voice. To capture Character Voice we have started
writing and drawing cartoons for our class novel Bartlett and The Ice Voyage. The cartoons are very
entertaining to read and we hope to have some for you to enjoy on our classroom
wall VERY soon.
The focus for Math
continues to be Number Knowledge and Basic Facts. There has been some
outstanding improvement in speed tests and accuracy. A few children will be
bringing home a new resource to try out at home called Flick Sticks, to help build up knowledge
from 1-20 addition and subtraction. Please come and see me if you are unsure
about how to use them, although hopefully your child can remember.
STAR OF THE WEEK:
Charlotte
Charlotte continued to show
she is a wonderful Ouruhia learner, and in particular she is showing fantastic
Independent skills such as self-management and BEST Effort. I love the way I
can rely on Charlotte to get her work done and use her initiative to figure
tricky things out. Keep it up Charlotte!
Remember to send back the
form for the Brooklyn Celebrations. There are a few children from Room 3
joining in with the Ouruhia Choir, but the more the better!
Enjoy your week,
Emma
Kia ora!
This will be another busy
week; the term seems to be flying by.
Monday: Mrs Beckett is in the
classroom while Ms Betts does testing, and works 1-1 with some children
Tuesday:
Wednesday: Canterbury Sports guys
coming in the afternoon
Thursday: Mrs Beckett will be
teaching while Ms Betts is on a course with the Room 1 and 2 teachers
Friday: Continuing with Miss Lee’s
Korean cultural and language lessons, that began last Friday and the children
loved!
STAR OF THE WEEK: Ethan
Ethan had grown so much
since joining our room in Term Two. He has gone from strength to strength in
organising his time, and getting quality work finished. I have just tested his
reading and he has gone up THREE levels! Well done Ethan, and keep up the
fantastic work!
Have a great week,
Emma.
Welcome to
Term 3, Week 6
Kia ora!
There are lots of things
happening in Room 3 this week. Firstly, we have a Student Teacher who will be
joining us for the next five weeks, Miss Sarah Lee. So please come in and
introduce yourself and make her feel welcome. Secondly, and sadly, we will be
saying farewell to Jasper and his family on Thursday. They will leave such a
gap in the school, and I know there are already quite a few sad faces around at
the thought of Jasper going. We will be having Class Party for Jasper on
Thursday, at 2pm. Could you please send something yummy along for a shared
afternoon tea! Parents you are
more than welcome to join us for the party and to come and say goodbye to
Jasper. Room 3 are learning how to Blog, by leaving comments and responses, so
we hope to keep in touch with Jasper that way, and hear all about his
adventure.
It is great getting
comments, feedback and notes from parents via the children’s homework books. I
have had to ask a few children to let me know, before Friday, that there is a
note for me though! If you have any queries just jot them down, or come in and
see me.
STAR OF THE WEEK:
Louise
Louise has been working
really hard, and stays on task to get her work finished. She is a fantastic
listener and contributes thoughtfully during class discussions, and does not
call out or interrupt others. Well done Louise, and keep it up!
Hope to see you all on
Thursday afternoon,
Have a great week,
Emma.
